How does the NFL work?
The NFL season is played out over the course of six months each year, starting in September and finishing with the Super Bowl in February. 32 teams compete each season, with the teams being separated into two conferences of 16 teams and they are then grouped into divisions of four teams.
The NFL season begins with the regular season, which sees each team play 16 games in an attempt to qualify for the playoffs. 12 teams reach the playoffs each season, with each of the eight divisional winners being joined in the postseason by four wildcard teams.
From here on in, teams play one-off, single elimination games, with the loser’s season coming to an end and the winner progressing to the next round of the playoffs. This format continues through to the Super Bowl, where the two final remaining teams compete to be crowned NFL champions in one of the most viewed sporting events of the year.

What NFL bets can I place with Paddy Power?
With so many eyes on the NFL each weekend, it’s inevitable that there will be plenty of punters looking to put their money where their mouth is by placing wagers across the various NFL games each weekend.
Thankfully, Paddy Power have delivered an in-depth betting coverage of the NFL, offering a range of different markets and outcomes for us to bet on. Below, we have picked out some of the most popular NFL bets that are picked out by Paddy Power customers each weekend.
Money Line
Money line refers to the result of the match you are betting on. With this market, there are just two options to bet on – a home win or an away win.
Handicap
More often than not most NFL gamblers will choose the handicap market over the money line market when it comes to betting on the result of a game due to the even odds. Within the handicap market, Paddy Power will set the line at which one team will start the game with a lead and one will start with a deficit.
For example, a home team may have a +3.5 advantage on the handicap if they are the underdogs, giving the favourites a -3.5 deficit to start off with. Your bet only wins on this market if your selected team either wins by a greater margin of the deficit they are given or if their advantage means their score is greater than their opponents.
Total Match Points
Paddy Power will also set a line for the number of points that will be scored during a particular NFL game. Punters must then decide whether they believe there will be more or less points scored than their line given to them in order to win their bet on the total match points market.
Double Result
Double result within the NFL betting world refers to predicting what the result will be at half-time and full-time with an NFL game. This gives punters the chance to bet on any one of nine possible combinations and the odds on the double result market tend to be pretty generous on Paddy Power.
Winning Margin
Paddy Power players may go even more specific in their bets on the results of NFL games, with there also being the option to bet on the number of points you believe a team will win by. Paddy Power give their customers the chance to bet on victories in intervals of five points, starting from a win by 1-6 points all the way up to a 43+ point victory.
Team Points
If betting on the overall game points isn’t for you, Paddy Power will give you the opportunity to bet on a specific team’s number of points within a game. If you feel one team has an elite offense or a suspect defense, you are free to act on your hunch as you please when you gamble on the NFL with Paddy Power.
Power Prices
Paddy Power have been known to run a promotion known as ‘Power Prices’ which sees them boost the odds of a certain number of NFL teams each weekend. These will often feature teams who are odds-on favourites to win that weekend.
